Robo & Bobo is an innovative educational-laboratory program designed to transform the negative experience of the disease into an opportunity to bring pre-adolescent and adolescent children (11-18 years) in cancer treatment closer to creative disciplines and new technologies.

245 young people, 457 laboratory activities, more than 30 professionals. These are the numbers of the first four editions!

Robo & Bobo is a project education program: it starts from the real problems and desires of young people, small or large, to accompany them to find solutions that require imagination, technologies and skills.

The learning by doing approach and the STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) allow to stimulate the innovative spirit and creativity, placing the emphasis on the design process of solutions, rather than on the solutions themselves. This type of problem-solving approach allows you to develop critical thinking that can then be applied to many other areas.

The laboratories give value to the digital tool not as an end, but as a means to train hospitalized children, through learning paths in which technologies and digital tools are put at the service of other areas of knowledge, ranging from design to contemporary art, from architecture to literature.

The objectives of Robo & Bobo are many: to enhance the training and employment offer within the hospital and during long periods at home, offering useful tools to deal with the times of treatment, as well as important moments of leisure and socialization. The activities proposed by Robo & Bobo are designed as bridges to the outside world, physical and mental spaces beyond the daily routine imposed by clinical needs.

Robo & Bobo is active in the Pediatric Oncohematology department of the Regina Margherita Children's Hospital in Turin and is now in its fifth edition. During the last year, with a view to reorganizing the project following the suspension linked to the health crisis, the laboratories were redesigned to be offered remotely. By moving the online activities, we want to exploit the potential of the remote proposal to intercept even the children who, while referring to the ward, receive treatment at the Spoke peripheral centers. This will make it possible to address the entire regional territory, significantly increasing participation in the project.
