ODLA è un dispositivo hardware per la scrittura digitale della musica sviluppato dal team di KEMONIA RIVER SRL, una startup innovativa a vocazione sociale di Palermo, per rendere i software informatici di notazione musicale accessibili anche ai non vedenti.
Si tratta di un modulo di input che si collega al computer via USB ed è caratterizzato dalla presenza di un “pentagramma in rilievo”, un particolare insieme di tasti che riproduce tridimensionalmente la tradizionale grafica della scrittura musicale. Il formato tridimensionale del rigo musicale rende i righi e gli spazi del pentagramma percepibili al tatto dell’utente e sensibili alla pressione, garantendo un feedback tattile che lo rende fruibile anche dall’utente con disabilità visiva.
L’attuale semiografia musicale si basa sulla rappresentazione spaziale del suono nel pentagramma, secondo un sistema grafico bidimensionale finora interdetto al non vedente, il quale invece può solo “descrivere” in braille i suoni o dettarli a un collaboratore. Rivoluzionando la sua precedente tecnica di scrittura musicale, il disabile visivo è messo, per la prima volta nella storia, nelle condizioni di trascrivere facilmente ed in modo del tutto autonomo le proprie composizioni.
Con l’utilizzo diretto del rigo musicale tradizionale, inoltre, egli viene introdotto nello stesso schema di astrazione spaziale utilizzato dal vedente; questo comporta il fatto che musicisti vedenti e non vedenti possano adesso parlare lo stesso linguaggio e, nelle istituzioni formative, che il docente possa rivolgersi con un’unica esposizione a entrambe le categorie.
Attraverso una razionale distribuzione dei tasti sulla sua superficie, inoltre, ODLA rende immediatamente disponibili anche tutte le altre funzioni necessarie alla stesura e all’editing della partitura in modo agevole e intuitivo. Il complesso processo della scrittura digitale della musica è, dunque, fortemente semplificato e, grazie ad una guida vocale controllata dalla stessa tastiera, il disabile della vista è aiutato ad orientarsi all'interno della partitura.
L'introduzione della terza dimensione nel procedimento di scrittura musicale è l'idea che sta alla base del brevetto concesso ad ODLA. Questo innovativo sistema di input dei dati musicali è stato inventato da Renato ed Alessandro Pace, soci di KEMONIA RIVER SRL, non esiste allo stato della tecnica, ha ottenuto il Brevetto Italiano per Invenzione Industriale ed è in attesa di brevetto per Europa, USA, Cina, India.

Furthermore, with the direct use of the traditional musical staff, he is introduced into the same spatial abstraction scheme used by the sighted person; this means that sighted and blind musicians can now speak the same language and, in educational institutions, that the teacher can address both categories with a single exposure.
Furthermore, through a rational distribution of the keys on its surface, ODLA also makes all the other functions necessary for writing and editing the score immediately available in an easy and intuitive way. The complex process of digital writing of music is, therefore, greatly simplified and, thanks to a vocal guide controlled by the same keyboard, the visually impaired is helped to orient himself within the score.
The introduction of the third dimension in the musical writing process is the idea behind the patent granted to ODLA.
